PITTED ACNE SCARS—

also known as atrophic scars, are depressions or indentations that form on the skin as a result of severe acne. they develop due to the sudden loss of collagen during the skin’s healing process. as cell regeneration occurs, it may not be enough to fully repair the damage. although there are treatments that can help with the appearance of these challenging scars, focusing on prevention is essential and preferred. this relies heavily on managing acne effectively to minimize inflammation and prevent severe breakouts. the most obvious way to prevent scarring is to avoid picking or squeezing breakouts — this can exacerbate inflammation and increase the risk of scarring. using quality skin care with non-comedogenic ingredients is also key to prevent inflammatory acne.

but what about when the damage has already been done? the safety and most effective way we treat pitted acne scars is by CIT - collagen induction therapy -(aka microneedling). pairing microneedling with peels & our specialized acne laser can also be very helpful in building new collagen and decreasing the discolouration associated with the scars. depending on the size of the indentation, fillers can help raise from beneath so they appear smoother. we have a tried, tested & true protocol that has shown incredible results in smoothing these dents out. consulting a skin specialist prior to treating is highly reccomended 🙋🏻‍♀️
