a lil sensi

sensitive types might as well have their own reality TV show. you wash: irritated. you tone: irritated. you serum: you get the picture (irritated). any effing effort to create a desirable canvas can create a reaction, leading to an angry complexion. the wrong ingredients, too much pollution, diet.. so when it comes to cleansing, a particularly mechanical skin-care step, it’s important to have a game plan to side step any irritation that might want to rear its unwanted head. the basic function of cleansing is to remove dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, so you want to attack the glue that’s adhering gunk to your pores but with sensitive skin, you don’t want to mess with the skin’s natural mantle— this involves following several rules that ensure that lathering up isn’t going to cause any…drama 😒 #1) i know it feels good, but using hot water does more harm than you’d think. nobody should be cleansing with hot water. especially with sensitive skin, be sure to use lukewarm water. hot water has drying effects on your skin. #2) you may have loved the squeaky-clean feeling that comes from a satisfyingly foamy cleanser, but chances are the ingredients are too harsh for your complexion—especially if your skin falls on the sensitive side. look for gentle, clean ingredients. #3) use gentle lactic acid exfoliants vs. manual exfoliants. #4) less is more. it can be tempting to try a bunch of different products when figuring out your beauty routine. in the case of having a sensitive complexion, however, simplicity is key—you should keep things as streamlined as possible, and then stick with it. ignore all the new cult products that everyone is raving over because chances are your skin will rebel and you will regret 🤭
