Over exfoliation

While it’s essential to exfoliate regularly as a way to shed dead skin cells and reveal the fresh, radiant skin sitting below the surface, the recent popularity of cell-scrubbing cleansers, toners, grains, and serums means that some of us might be exfoliating a bit *too* much. Get this— some of the key issues exfoliation is meant to treat (like dry, peeling skin and breakouts) can also be brought on by over-exfoliation. So, how can you tell if you need to buff away the buildup or give it a break?
• irritation

• redness

• otherwise inflamed skin

Eventually, your complexion can become dry and flaky. You could even develop a rashlike texture, leading to uneven tone (like patchy, red blotches). Breakouts are another common reaction, such as tiny pustules, small bumps on the skin, or pimples that contain fluid or pus - yikes!! Best to let your skin calm down and rebuild the barrier. Once your compromised skin has become more resilient, you can slowly introduce gentle enzymes and lactic acids into your routine again.
