Holiday Cheers

tis the season ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿผโœจ๐Ÿท โ€” holiday parties, cookies, candy canes, gingerbread, eggnog etc... itโ€™s an indulgent time of the year and to be fair, iโ€™m not completely upset about that but your skin sure the hell will be ๐Ÿ˜ฌ a couple items to *try* to be mindful about in terms of intake are SUGAR + ALCOHOL. Letโ€™s start with sugar; in a nutshell, it breaks down collagen, the springy substance that makes your skin look plump, youthful, and lifted. uhm, yeah.. ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ also, sugar can weaken the immune system, and a suppressed immune system is bad at fighting off bacteria. bacteria clogged in pores creates pimples. sugar triggers insulin production, which triggers protein-utilization malfunctionsโ€” it acts as a kind of signal scrambler, affecting the production of the proteins and amino acids that build up collagen and elasticity. it also creates more testosterone. testosterone makes pores larger, skin is oilier- not nice. Now lets talk alcohol, drinking too much can affect your skin too. alcohol dehydrates and causes capillaries to dilate so dark circles will show under the eyes more prominently. alcohol also inflames tissue, and systemic inflammation to the skin caused by alcohol creates a histamine reactionโ€”that creates the redness, the flushing of the skin. Enjoy the holidays & parties that this season offers but donโ€™t overdo itโ€” drink extra water to off set the alcohol and pick healthy options like fruit over processed sugar when you can ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ
